Hmmmmm. Interesting that this is very similar to a playoff scenario, albeit not a true playoff.

What I find interesting is that if this occurs, the C-USA champion, if they win this match-up game, would end up playing 15 games. 12 reg season, CUSA CG, Play-in game, and BCS game.

This is "not in the players best interest" but would occur anyway. When we had our discussions in the past where a playoff series would allow teams anywhere from 15 to 17/18 games.

We are getting closer and closer .....

On the surface this makes no sense however after thinking about the move it actually can make some sense in the eyes of BYU. For one if this rumor has any legs there will be an announcement this week because the WAC has a deadline of September first for a new member to join for the following season. BYU could theoretically could join the WAC in all sports for 2011 and then be an independent for 2011 in football.

In an article ESPN's Heather Dinich wrote attempting to say the ACC is a top six league by using old data.

Instead, the data from the 2004-2007 regular seasons shows the league fared no worse than fifth among the 11 conferences in the major rankings used by the BCS to determine which conferences earn automatic qualifying status.

A press conference is scheduled tomorrow at 1pm mountain time and Utah will officially announce they are going to the Pac-10. There is the formality of Utah's Board of Trustees who will hold a public meeting Thursday at 12:30 p.m. (mst).

Tom Cella from the Utah Rivals site UteZone.com has information that Utah is on their way to the Pac-10:

Sources are telling me that Utah informed the MWC of its intentions to leave the conference today. Working to confirm this.

If Texas agrees to the Big XII, then the next move should be Utah to Pac-10 and then the expansion stuff is done.

Hopefully!

This is speculation, but expansion has been crazy.

A good chance for the league to either replace Utah who might be leaving to join the Pac-10, or to pick up the left overs to form an even stronger league.

1.) Just because the Mountain West could evolve into a full-fledged 'super conference,' it doesn't guarantee the media won't still treat it like a mid-major. If the 'super conference' trend continues, it's widely speculated that FBS football would wind up with 5 'super conferences,' and the traditional powers-that-be run the other conferences.

2.) Just because a Big XII implosion would orphan 5 schools from a 'BCS conference,' it neither means they'll give the MWC credibility, nor does it mean that these schools are seeking to play in the Mountain West.

3.) There's still the very real possibility that the 5 Big XII leftovers raid C-USA for teams, forming a conference with roughly the same footprint as the Big XII, but without the football luster (Houston, SMU, UTEP, Tulsa, Memphis, and/or Rice and 1 other team - likely Tulane, Louisiana Tech, or North Texas). If they took 6 teams from C-USA they'd still maintain BCS/Basketball tournament eligibility requirements, and a Kansas, K-State, Memphis, and Baylor anchored basektball conference, coupled with historical powers UTEP and Houston would be one Hell of a basketball conference.

4.) The conference expansion/raiding game isn't over. The PAC-# could still try and take Utah away from the MWC, and the SEC may well try and pluck TCU if Texas A&M tries to join. The Big Ten could also up and decide to take some remnant pieces of the Big XII (Kansas, or maybe even Missouri), removing the best potential pick-ups from the board.
