40 Teams 'til Kickoff: Arizona State
[Editor's note: This series presents teams in order of the value each team would add to a conference hypothetical near the boarder of the criteria used by the BCS to determine future automatic qualifications. It is not a predictive measure of the 2010 season.]
The Arizona St. Sun Devils have been the premier college football team in Arizona for the past 10 years, typically making a shot at the top 25. As we was a couple days ago they are not the strongest long term. It should be observed that this includes many years before Arizona State became relevant in the 1960's.
Last year Arizona appears to have turned the tables, as indicated by almost catching ASU in this list over the past three years. It will be interesting to see how this develops in the years to come.
This year's "Duel in the Desert" may be the most exciting football game in Arizona this year.
Head Coach: Dennis Erickson (Fourth Year)
Offensive Coordinator: Noel Mazzone (First Year)
Defensive Coordinator: Craig Bray (Fourth year)
The word "hot seat" comes to mind.
