Dominoes: C-USA Edition

C-USA was mentioned as targets in the East by the Big East and possibly the ACC and the West by the MWC and perhaps the Big 12. As a twelve team conference C-USA is stable and unlikely to change without outside influence. Unless the MWC expands to 12 or the Big 10 goes to 14 C-USA has little to fear.

What options are available if the dominoes turn their way?

C-USA would have there pick of Sun Belt, MAC and WAC teams. Geography becomes a major obstacle for most of these teams. Basically, C-USA is sitting good and has options if they are forced to use them.

Star-divide

Teams from the MAC are typically a bit far north to fit in C-USA. The Central Michigan Chippewas have had some recent success that could warrant an exception. Miami (Ohio) RedHawks and Toledo Rockets have some recent history and the Northern Illinois Huskies brings a solid athletics department. Frankly, I must admit a certain bias against the existence of a 13 team conference.

Teams from the WAC are far west, even for the C-USA western division. LA Tech is a glaring exception. This shift should happen for geographical reasons alone.

The Sun Belt offers the Troy Trojans and Middle Tenn. St. Blue Raiders who would fit nicely into the C-USA geography and have had some recent success. Florida Atlantic Owls could extend the reach into Florida and enjoyed some not to distant success.

Several Colonial Athletic Association members would be a quick solid fit as well.
