BCS Championship Game recap
With last night's win the Alabama Crimson Tide has earned their 13th national championship, ended a five game streak of the favored team losing the BCS championship and watched the second Heisman winner follow up with a solid BCS championship game and earn a win.
The game was mostly decided early in the first quarter when Colt McCoy went out with a shoulder injury. The ensuing Field Goal and short kickoff feilded by the Texas Longhorns gave Texas an early lead and the ball in good field possition. Texas was unable to move the chains and took an early 6-0 lead. After trading a couple of punts Alabama would drive down the field and score the go ahead TD on the first play of the second quarter.
Both defenses continued to hold the offenses in check until midway through the 2nd quarter Texas' defense broke down and allowed a 49 yard TD run that could have gone much farther, giving Alabama a 14-6 lead and Texas without thier start QB. A field goal with two minutes left gave Alabama a 17-6 lead and a sense that this game was getting out of reach quickly. An interception returned for a TD on Texas' next drive drove the nail into the coffin.
The third quarter saw Texas slowly leverage the field possition and eventually score their first TD of the game, cutting the lead to 24-13. Texas recovered an onside kick but was unable to capitalize on the short field with points.
Alabama answered with thier first sustained drive of the game and three more points, taking us into the final quarter of the game. Texas answered with a solid drive down the field and a two point conversion that cut the lead to 24-21 and gave the illusion that Texas was on the verge of one of the greatest comebacks in BCS history. This ended when Garrett Gilbert was hit and fumbled deep in Alabama territory on thier next possetion. Three plays latter Mark Ingram was in the endzone and his team was up 31-21. Three plays later Javier Arenas made his presence known with an interception of Freshman QB Gilbert.
A touchdown, missed extrapoint and a second interception were the falling action as the final score of 37-21 was established.
Texas certainly had some opportunities to win and one could be left with a feeling that the real McCoy might have made all the difference.

It was the shoulder
But wasn’t the fact that he was running around in a pink shirt somewhat entertaining? Most coaches wear a waterproof jackets to the game.
Mack Brown was ready for a win.
At least have a spare shirt somewhere on the sidelines.

I think he changed shirts
It looked like he had changed shirts by the time they got to the press conference at the end of the game.
