News around the BCS bowls

Lets start with the biggest sports headline of the weekend:

Florida Gators

Urban Meyer to resign take an indefinite leave of absence. Between chest pain, a brain cyst and a severe type A personality Meyer needs some time to find a balance that will not kill him.

The announcement that he was leaving had me thinking that this could be used to motivate the players for his last game. The recanting now makes this a major distraction. How much of his historic self will Meyer bring to the Sugar Bowl?

We will know shortly.

Star-divide

Alabama Crimson Tide

Saban hopes last year's Sugar Bowl loss will help motivate athletes to prepare this year.

Texas Longhorns

Remember 2005 when Texas upset the heavily favored USC Trojans? Does this year's team compare?

Cincinnati Bearcats

Bearcats land in New Orleans, focused on Florida, not coaching distractions.

TCU Horned Frogs

Has TCU's success been skill or luck? Gary Patterson has made a name for himself with his ability to move players to positions where their skills can better serve the team. How many of these are motivated by desperation to fill key holes?

Boise St. Broncos

Is the MWC better than Boise State fans have set their hope thinking?

Ohio St. Buckeyes

Just the normal day ... stretching, weightlifting, practicing, going to Disneyland.

Oregon Ducks

Not to be outdone, Oregon joins Ohio St. Head coach Jim Tressel in the Mickey Mouse stuff.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech's offense has the opposition on their heels.

Iowa Hawkeyes

Iowa looks to repeat last year's Outback Bowl success in 2009.
