PAC 10 Race - Revisited.

This week I added all possibilities of the conference races to my BCS standings analysis.  Unfortunately the presentation of the PAC 10 race, while precise in describing results for each case, does not make it clear what each teams needs.

So today I dusted off the old Karnough maps and played with the scenarios to clarify the cases for each team.  I like Sudoku also.  Each of the five teams still alive are listed in order of the most number of cases found where they can get in, essentially treating each game as a coin flip.  For a percentage value that includes estimates of each game's results I recommend Avinash's article at California Golden Blogs.

Apparently I was not the first to find that USC is not yet eliminated

Now for goods:

Star-divide

Oregon Ducks: 104/256

  • Beat Arizona and Oregon State
  • Beat Oregon State and California beat Stanford and ASU or USC beat Arizona

Oregon St. Beavers: 60/256

  • Beat Oregon and WSU and Oregon, USC or ASU beat Arizona
  • Arizona beat Oregon and California beat Stanford and ASU and USC both beat Arizona

Stanford Cardinal: 52/256

  • Beat California and Arizona beat Oregon and
    • Washington State beat Oregon State and ASU beat Arizona
    • Oregon beat Oregon State and ASU or USC beat Arizona
  • Beat California and Oregon beat Arizona and Oregon State beat Oregon and WSU beat Oregon State

Arizona Wildcats: 39/256

  • Beat Oregon and
    • Beat USC and ASU
    • Oregon State beat Oregon and California beat Stanford and WSU beat Oregon State and
      • Beat USC
      • Beat ASU and Washington beat California or UCLA beat USC

USC Trojans: 1/256

All of the following:

  • USC beat UCLA and Arizona
  • Arizona beat Oregon and ASU
  • California beat Stanford and Washington
  • Oregon State beat Oregon and lose to WSU

a 4 way tie is different than a 6 way tie

it’s like saying new mexico would beat utah. pac-ten 6 way tie depends on wazzou beating oregon state. they might cover 30 point spread but there not winning the game. peace.
