Heisman Hopefuls

Ok, so I was thinking ... on SB nation most Heisman race coverage features the given team page's candidate.  As a blog dedicated to college football in general I could provide a neutral Heisman perspective.

It almost seemed like a duty of this blog.

The issue is I think football is a team sport and I don't think individual awards make too much sense in that context.  Maybe for academic success, but not for on field performance.

Star-divide

Consider 2006.  Based on this years evidence it might have been better to have given the award to Percy Harvin, likewise to the Oklahoma line in 2008.

But people want to know as bad as I want to know the BCS standings.  Well, I can at least give a home for the conversation. Each week I will post a poll of the top 5 contenders.  The player with the lowest number of votes will drop out and I will look for a player to replace them.  Where will I look?  In the comments below, where else?

To start this off I will use the three former Heisman winners, Lou Holtz favorite Clausen and BCS computer favorite Iowa's QB.

I think that method is as ridiculous as the premise of the trophy itself.

Am I crazy?  Probably.  Tell me how below!  (Preferably regarding my selection methods and who I missed)

What no option for other?

Soh from Nebraska, Cody and Ingram from Alabama and Keenen from Houston are fine choices as well.

The kid I like to finish top 5 (who won’ win of course) is Freddie Barnes, the WR from Bowling Green who is absolutely tearing it up.

The option for other is here

I expect Bradford will be dropping out next week, and will be replaced by whoever has the most support down here.

I agree that the fact that Heisman ignores completely the smaller schools is a travesty to the competitive nature of the sport. If anything, success at a smaller program with a reduced supporting cast should boost one’s individual recognition.

options

Chase Keenum the houston QB I am mobile commenting so not sure if that is how his name is spelled. Or perhaps QB andy dalton from TCU. Another stat guy could be the Nevada QB Colin Kapernick

None of the above

My top four would probably be, in no particular order: Jahvid Best, Dan LeFevour, Ndamakong Suh, and Tyler Sash. Clausen would, VERY reluctantly, be my top choice among those listed.
