BCS on the Web

Most of this weekends attention was in response to the initial release of the BCS standings:

When BCS rankings are released bellyaching is sure to follow | LSU Tigers Central - - NOLA.com
Lindsay: BCS rankings spawn questions for Florida, Alabama - Review of the top 7
Boise State football has plenty of room to improve | Boise State Eyepiece | Idaho Statesman
Hlas column: Ferentz amused, not annoyed by BCS chatter | GazetteOnline.com
TCU Trying To Bust To Top Of BCS - cbs11tv.com

Others looked for hope that conflict may ensue:

BCS faces another possible nightmare - Press-Telegram [Possibility of SEC rematch in NCG]
The News Record - Undefeated teams could break BCS [Possibility of undefeated Cincinnati or Iowa being left out]

A bit of chatter was given to the official press release announcing the formation of Playoff PAC that was intentionally timed to match the release of the first BCS standings.

CNN Political Ticker: All politics, all the time Blog Archive - PAC formed to push for BCS playoff " - Blogs from CNN.com
Capitol idea: Keep BCS politics away from Congress - USATODAY.com

Also, the BCS itself is considering a reorganization at the top.

The Associated Press: BCS officials might hire permanent point person

Star-divide

My take on the standings has already been posted

Most people focus on undefeated teams like Boise State and Utah as presenting the most pressing threat to the BCS.  In fact the only real threat to the BCS is a split title.  A NCG with two teams from the same conference would upset many who have helped forge and maintain the current system.  If a team from an automatic qualifying conference goes undefeated and is left on the sidelines that will also raise serious complaints (think Auburn 2004 vs. Utah 2004).

If both happen that could be a serious blow to the credibility of the BCS.

Playoff PAC is an interesting concept I will address more on Friday.

Perhaps I am reading between the lines a bit, but the fact that the BCS is considering hiring a dedicated person to push and address their selling points is telling of the increased pressure they may be feeling.  Perhaps this is a direct response to the formation of a PAC to oppose them.

The fact is that the BCS currently has one full time employee and is mostly governed by committees of officials with other more pressing interests and responsibilities.  My designs actually call for an expansion of the BCS' role and this would call for an expansion of its structure.  A point man would also be responsible for responding to, thus be exposed to, the best post season designs which would allow them to present these in a way that is tailored to those who make the final decisions.  This would be a good thing for the postseason process and debate.

i get it. that way they would have to take the winner of the sec cg and the #4 team in bcs poll.

all three would be just as chaotic. jim delaney would go ballistic if his undefeated big ten champ did not get a shot at the national title game. lmao! don’t break the phone jim, you need to call your associates and have a three way conference call with espn. no begging either. there is no crying in college football!
