Let the BCS Evolution Begin!
So the NY Times says a college football playoff needs a cheerleader?
Hello World!
I have been following the BCS since it (and the MWC) formed in 1998. I have dabbled in emulating the rankings, especially prior to the official standings, until I found that Samuel Chi is much more efficient than I am at this. Last year I began an emulation of the BCS automatic qualification criteria which is currently hosted at his site.
As a trained journalist he values his impartial perspective far too much to be a cheerleader for a playoff. Being impartial is too dehumanizing for me to take. One can be respectful to other beliefs without being impartial. This is my aim, and what I take as a key difference between blogging and traditional media outlets.
Mike Slive, Craig Thompson, Bob Kustra, Pete Carroll, Joe Paterno, Mike Leach, Orrin Hatch and Joe Barton have all recently advocated for some type of playoff from their varied posts. BCS Administrator Bill Hancock used to run one. All have other responsibilities that occupy their interests and would be negligent in their job function if they undertook leading the charge for a playoff.
Since last year at least three outside sources attempted to become cheerleaders in the fight for a playoff. In December 2008 a group calling itself the American Armature Athletics Watchdogs began attempting to gain the estimated $3 million it would need to launch an anti-trust case against the BCS. So far they have just under $9,000. Gary Miller formed BCS Reform in February 2008 to build a grass roots political lobby to promote change from congress. Brandon Kennedy launched an effort to promote change, sparing nothing for the cause. Just last month a group calling itself Playoff PAC formed to support pro-playoff candidates.
Every year pockets of fans of the teams feeling left out form to promote change and then fade away with the emotions. What makes me different from those who have traveled this road before me?
My primary focus is not to build a financial base to promote change or a political lobby to move bills through the halls of congress. My focus is to promote an actual change, and the fastest change can come from within the BCS itself. Others raise their voice to the loudest level possible, before there lack of research is exposed. I have spent an offseason learning about the key issues and developing my ideas and am now ready to present my ideas to the public.
I chose to present myself as an opposing view willing to hear and address the BCS's concerns in my ideas. The result is that I have received formal responses from Bill Hancock on behalf of the BCS to proposals submitted this summer.
A year after my alma mater, The University of Utah, made their second BCS splash, and after their winning streak has ended, I am still here ready to push my ideas forward. I have been posting links to BCS related articles on my Twitter (BCS_Revolution) since May. To stay current I will need to continue to research all things BCS. SB Nation has provided a home for my finds, notes and ideas about the BCS. I look forward to and clarifying the BCS as much as possible and reading your ideas to improve it along the way!
A sketch of my tournament design will be posted over the next three days and I will be breaking down various BCS scenarios all season long.
During the off season I will cover breaking BCS news, present ideas for changes, examine key BCS components and maybe dabble in conference alignments and issues related to college football as a whole.
I invite you to join the SB Nation community and create a fanpost for any postseason designs or ideas you may have. I ask that you use the space above the jump to concisely describe your concepts and the space below to hash out the whys and wherefores.
As a fair warning, I will apply the evaluation criteria I have gleaned directly from the BCS to any proposed ideas. This should be viewed as an opportunity to improve those areas that your ideas may have not considered. I likewise invite you to present issues you have with my concepts. Like iron sharpening iron, listening to and answering the detractors of our concepts will only make them stronger.
I have hope that an improved championship system can be put in place for the 2014 season. I am certain that the best ideas have yet to be written. Welcome to the brainstorm!

I Can Be A Cheerleader...
but since I’m not a sexy, attractive female but a 20-something male bachelor, I doubt they want me. In any case, I desperately want a playoff in Division I-A college football. The NFL will always be king to me, but CFB can close the gap if they create a playoff.

FIRE BRUCE BOCHY NOW!!!!!!

Welcome to SB Nation!
This is sure to spark a ridiculous amount of conversation and debate as the season wears on. THE BOWLS MUST STAY! With a Final 4 playoff / Plus-1 model of course.

I remain
against a playoff.
Everyone needs an antagonist, however, don’t they. Welcome to SB Nation just the same.

I welcome and respect that view
I think we can agree to both be strong supporters of the bowls.
I can not think of a better way of vetting an idea than posting it publicly on a blog. If you ignore the opposing views you can forget they exist and presume more support than truly exists for your cause.
By addressing those critical of your concepts you respect the validity of their views, even if you are unable to accommodate all of them.
